MAISON 140 AND AVALON HOTELS IN BEVERLY HILLS MAKE QUITE A PAIR WITH "VIN ET FROMAGE" 2006 SUMMER SERIES OF WINE AND CHEESE TASTING EVENTS AT BAR NOIR

Avalon's Gabriel Gil and Marieke Nicol showcase their talents through new format for summer

June 2006 (Los Angeles) - Wine and cheese lovers with a taste for the finest will find it at Vin et Fromage, the 2006 Summer Series of pairings at Maison 140 in Beverly Hills. Held each month in the hotel's intimate French-Mandarin inspired Bar Noir, the ongoing series will feature suitably summery California boutique wines chosen by wine expert Marieke Nicol and international gourmet cheeses selected by Sous Chef Gabriel Gil of Avalon's blue on blue restaurant. Each night is designed as an interactive event, emphasizing a new small group format and closing with a vote to name Bar Noir's featured "wine of the month."

Open to guests of the hotels and local residents alike, Vin et Fromage's new Summer Series unfolds as an intimate learning experience as well as a feast for the senses. Focusing on four-to-five California wines each month, tastings will commence with a group pouring of the evening's first wine, with subsequent wines poured table to table. As Ms. Nicol circles the room, she will share tasting notes and vintage history with each small group, maximizing the evening's educational potential. As accompaniment to the featured wines, Chef Gil will introduce a selection of astutely paired rare cheeses along with a specially-prepared canapé for each occasion.

The Vin et Fromage Summer Series kicked off on June 19 with a splash of California Pinot Noirs including a 2004 Carpe Diem from Fire Peak Vineyards in the Edna Valley, a 2003 Tandem from Keefer Ranch in Green Valley and a Pink Fiddle rosé from Fiddlehead Cellars in the Santa Ynez Valley, together with artisanal cheeses from classic Pinot Noir regions around the world such as Burgundy and New Zealand. Upcoming Vin et Fromage pairings at Bar Noir will be held:

  • July 17 - California Sparkling Wines
  • August 21 - Summer Whites
  • September 18 - Autumn Wine Preview

Each event can be enjoyed for $45 per person and will run from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. at Bar Noir at Maison 140. Parking is complimentary. Reservations are recommended.
